JIM GOLDBERG “RICH AND POOR”

Why is it that some people are rich and others poor? Birth, hard work, luck or blind fate? From Initial history, people were divided into poor and rich. “Rich and Poor” is an anarchist overtones, which stems from the hope of changing the reality. Images are consistent and timeless masterpiece, showing stratification of American society. The publication is made up of black and white portraits of the inhabitants of San Francisco, under which appear hand-written comments. The greatest strength of this book is its heroes – people and their stories, which they share with us.

Jo Metson Scott –  Through photographs and interviews, ‘The Grey Line‘ explores the lives of soldiers to more fully understand what it was that changed their minds and drove them to take an anti-war position – no matter what consequence. Publication of the book marks 10 years since the invasion of Iraq.

Artist works are a reflection of the birth of the European avant-garde and the gradual emancipation of women. Hannah watched the emergence of different for photography, cinema and mass media. She was also witnessed of two brutal wars that decimated Europe and changed many cities to rubble. All this experience has shaped her work as a chaotic collage of images.

My collages will be made of symbols, illustrations found in the press and advertising. I have to admit that it is difficult to present a portrait of someone (myself and husband) without the pictures, so I drew attention to the nature of the behavior of a person, his daily activities and interests.

In my work I presented us as a Roman statue … which are a symbol of the values in which we believe, they represent our similarities to the views and behavior.

We identify ourselves with the thesis of Sallust, “everybody is the architect of his own fate”; or Cato the Elder ” Grasp the subject, the words will follow.”

According to Romans, ideal and exemplary citizen should be hardworking, enterprising, absolutely honest, healthy, friendly, loyal, brave soldier. This image of a citizen of Rome can find in Virgil’s Georgics in the encyclopedia Pliny the Elder, in Conversations in Tusculum -Ciciero or Seneca Moral Letters To Lucilius..

Next to respect the traditions and laws, the Romans also valued loyalty and hard clear ethical principles, which for many years cemented society, to enable a constructive effort and development.
